Adfinitas Health Co-Sponsors SHM Event Focused on NPs and PAs

Hanover, MD – May 5, 2017 – Adfinitas Health, the largest private hospitalist group in the Mid-

Atlantic region, is pleased to have co-sponsored the PA/NP Reception on May 3rd at Hospital Medicine 2017 (HM17), the Society of Hospital Medicine’s (SHM) annual meeting. This year’s meeting, the premier educational event for healthcare professionals who specialize in hospital medicine, took place from May 1st to May 4th in Las Vegas.

The company’s sponsorship of this reception reflects its longstanding commitment to hiring, training and deploying physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) to work at the top of their credentials alongside physicians, providing superb quality and value to Adfinitas Health’s clients.

SHM Board member Tracy Cardin, who is an acute care NP and hospitalist, has been spearheading the organization’s work to bring attention to the critical role that NPs and PAs play in hospital medicine. According to the 2016 State of Hospital Medicine Report published by SHM, nearly 65 percent of all adult hospital programs and 33 percent of pediatric programs employ either physician’s assistants (PA) or NPs in some capacity. Cardin notes that the use of hospitalist NPs is likely to grow as hospital’s shift to value-based payment models.

“We’re excited to be a leading sponsor of this reception,” said Dr. Douglas Mitchell, co-founder & CEO of Adfinitas Health, “and help build energy and awareness around the important role of NPs and PAs in hospital medicine. Our company is one of the pioneer hospitalist companies to pair highly-qualified and trained PAs and NPs with physicians.  We operate our own rigorous training program based on SHM curriculum that supports both clinical and leadership development.”

Dr. Timothy Capstack, Partner and Director of Clinical Integration said, “Our six-month program combines didactic coursework with on-the-job learning, where APPs work closely with our experienced clinical instructors and medical staff.” As demonstrated by Capstack’s study published in the October 2016 issue of the Journal of Clinical Outcomes Management, this model delivers high-quality care and high patient satisfaction in a more cost-effective manner than a traditional, physician-centric model. In an age where it’s increasingly imperative that hospitals and health systems deliver more for less, this study demonstrates that our expanded APP framework is an effective acute-care model.
